This motet is one of several Marian works written by Josquin towards the end of his life 27th August 1521 at Condé-sur-l’Escaut. Other pieces include Benedicta es, Praeter rerum seriem and the Missa de Beata Virgine. The present motet was probably composed in 1520.

Translation:

PATER NOSTER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

AVE MARIA

Haul Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art though among women and blessed is the fruit of they womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Queen of heaven, sweet and holy, o mother of God. Pray for us sinners that with the elect we may see thee.
